Another good news open access story.****

Recently, the institutional repository at Queensland University of
Technology (QUT ePrints <http://eprints.qut.edu.au/>) reached a major
milestone when a full-text journal article became the 10 millionth
download<http://eprints.qut.edu.au/statistics/>.
Nearly ten years ago (in September 2003), QUT implemented the World=92s
first institution-wide open access
mandate<http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/F/F_01_03.jsp>. Since then, the
proportion of the University=92s annual research output
deposited as full-text has risen to over 75% (for 2012 publications). ***=
*

Today, there are 25,681 full-text publications in the repository and 22,315
of them (86%) are open access. The average number of documents downloaded
each month is over 200,000. Over 97% of the downloads are from an external
IP address. Many of the embargoed full-texts can be accessed via a
=91Request Copy=92 feature (see:
http://eprints.qut.edu.au/55328/<http://eprints.qut.edu.au/54602/>
).****

QUT ePrints was the top ranked Institutional Repository in Australia and 14
th in the world in the latest biannual Ranking Web of
Repositories<http://repositories.webometrics.info/en/top_Inst>
.****

**

*Conference reminder*:****

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) will be hosting the *Open Access
and Research Conference 2013*, in Brisbane (Australia), from 31 October to
1 November. ****

*Open Access and Research Conference 2013*
<http://www.oar2013.qut.edu.au/>=
*
*

*31 October =96 1 November 2013 *

The adoption of national and institutional open access mandates in recent
years is evidence of the global transition towards more broad-reaching,
efficient and inclusive systems of scholarly communication. This event is
an opportunity to take stock of these developments and to discuss the
strategic advantages they bring to the research sector moving forward. ***=
*

The conference theme *Discovery, Impact and Innovation* examines the
transition to Open Access and looks ahead, to how these emerging systems of
scholarly communication can maximise research impact and help realise the
full benefits of public research worldwide. ****

The program includes speakers from the United States, Europe, Asia and
Australia, as well as a number of thematic sessions focusing on issues such
as advocacy, alternative metrics, open data and open access publishing.****
